Company History
Artecel was originally founded in 2000 as Artecel Sciences and focused on autologous applications in cosmetic surgery and hematopoietic support. Part of the start-up technology was based on licensed intellectual property that included in vitro isolation of stem cells from adipose tissue.
One early milestone was the announcement, in February, 2001, that the Company had completed initial proof-of-principle studies showing the utility of human adipose tissue as a source of cells for four clinical applications: (1) soft tissue cosmesis, (2) hematopoietic support during bone marrow transplantation, (3) repair of bone, and (4) repair of cartilage. Toucan Capital Corp. acquired the assets of Artecel Sciences in April, 2003, and changed the name to Artecel.
